What Is the Root Canal Treatment Procedure?
What Happens After A Root Canal Procedure?
When you have a root canal treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed from the tooth. The tooth is then cleaned and filled with a filling material called gutta-percha. If your tooth is cracked, you may need a crown.
A crown covers the tooth and restores it to its normal function and shape. A crown may be needed if there is too much damage for the tooth to be restored with a filling. Crowns also cover dental implants, which replace missing teeth.
Aftercare After Root Canal Treatment
You may experience slight discomfort or sensitivity when eating or drinking hot or cold foods for about 72 hours after your treatment procedure. You can take painkillers like ibuprofen for relief from discomfort. Avoid consuming hot foods and beverages for 3-4 days after your treatment procedure and keep using an ice pack on your cheek for 20 minutes every hour for two days after your treatment procedure to control swelling.
